Remote optical monitoring in remotely power assisted passive optical networks
2010
In this paper, the authors present the latest results on a simple and low cost method to achieve a dynamic and flexible network monitoring. By placing several fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) along the passive optical gigabit Ethernet infrastructure (GePON), the proposed modified optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) is able to monitor the entire system by simply tuning its working wavelength. Furthermore, the optical network terminals (ONT), at the end users premises, have been interconnected to the trunk via an innovative cable able to both carry the optical signal as well as the power supply.
Monitoring System of Passive Optical Networks with Remotely Power Supply of Optical Network Terminals
2011
In this paper, the authors, present last results on a low cost method to monitoring Passive-Optical-Network, which it uses Fiber-Bragg-Gratings and a modified Optical-Time-Domain-Reflectometer, and a remote power supply of Optical-Network-Terminals by a bivalent-use cable.
Optical Monitoring of Microplastics Filtrated from Wastewater Sludge and Suspended in Ethanol.
2021
The abundance of microplastics (MPs) in the atmosphere, on land, and especially in water bodies is well acknowledged. In this study, we establish an optical method based on three different techniques, namely, specular reflection to probe the medium, transmission spectroscopy measurements for the detection and identification, and a speckle pattern for monitoring the sedimentation of MPs filtrated from wastewater sludge and suspended in ethanol. We used first Raman measurements to estimate the presence and types of different MPs in wastewater sludge samples. We also used microscopy to identify the shapes of the main MPs. This allowed us to create a teaching set of samples to be characterized …
